We ended up staying for hours, taking in the views and learning about Gaudí’s personal life. He was an incredible person! When you arrive at Park Güell with your ticket, you’ll skip the entrance line and enter the Monumental Zone, where the main attractions await. First, you'll see the Porter’s Lodge Pavilions: two houses on either side of the main entrance. The left house was once a concierge office, and the right, called Casa del Guarda, served as a porter’s residence, which you can enter with your ticket. Right in front of the entrance, you’ll spot the famous Dragon Stairway, featuring El Drac, a colorful mosaic salamander, and the park’s iconic symbol. JOURNEY THROUGH THE MONUMENTAL ZONE
As you head up the Dragon Stairway, you'll enter the Hypostyle Hall, lined with 86 Doric columns. Here, you can relax on benches with a view of the entrance pavilion and the famous dragon fountain. From the Hypostyle Hall, you can explore in different directions—Austria Gardens are to your right, and if you go up, you'll reach the Greek Theatre, now called Nature Square (Plaça de la Natura). From residential estate to public park
Park Güell was initially meant to be a residential estate. Eusebi Güell commissioned Antoni Gaudí for a housing project on his large estate. Construction began in 1900 but the project was abandoned in 1914 after only two houses were built. However, many of the impressive features of the park had already been completed, so it became a private garden.
In 1926, the Güell family donated the park to the city of Barcelona, transforming it into a public park. That same year, Park Güell was opened to the public, allowing visitors from all over the world to enjoy its extraordinary beauty. You can reach Park Güell with public transport — metro and bus — especially if you have a Hola Barcelona Travel Card, which covers unlimited journeys. If going by metro, use the green line (L3). The closest stops to the park are Lesseps and Vallcarca. If going by bus, take line 24 from Plaça Catalunya and exit at Ana María Matute – CN Catalunya. The metro line is a bit faster but will leave you walking uphill for 10 to 15 minutes. We recommend using the bus as its final station leaves you much closer to the park and without uphill walking.How long does it take to explore Park Güell?
